10-30-10 special fertiliser for fruits and vegetables is formulated for horticulture, where the crop has to be carried from establishment through fruit set and fill without a check. Fruit and vegetable crops are judged on size, firmness and quality as much as on weight, and those are nutrition-sensitive. Phosphorus leads this analysis at 30%, against 10% nitrogen and 10% potassium. Phosphorus is the establishment nutrient – root development, early vigour, flower and seed set – and it moves very little in soil, so it has to be placed where young roots will find it.
