Description
Muriate of potash (MOP) 0-0-60 carries 600 kg of potash (K2O) in every tonne — the highest potassium analysis of any fertiliser in common use, and the lowest cost per unit of potassium available.
It also carries chloride, which is what makes it cheap and what decides where it can be used. Supplied in bulk, bulka bags or bagged from 10 MT, delivered Australia-wide and shipped worldwide, with a Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet against the batch supplied.

Nutrient Content of MOP 0-0-60
One tonne supplies 600 kg of potash (K2O), equivalent to roughly 500 kg of elemental potassium. There is no nitrogen and no phosphorus — every kilogram of freight you pay is carrying potassium.
Nutrient supplied at different rates
| Rate | K2O supplied |
|---|---|
| 50 kg/ha | 30 kg K2O/ha |
| 100 kg/ha | 60 kg K2O/ha |
| 150 kg/ha | 90 kg K2O/ha |
| 200 kg/ha | 120 kg K2O/ha |
Indicative conversion only. Set application rates against a current soil test and confirm them with a qualified agronomist.
Where MOP 0-0-60 Is Used
Potassium governs water use, sugar transport and stem strength. Deficiency shows up as lodging, poor grain fill and crops that suffer badly in a dry finish.
Broadacre cereals and oilseeds
Wheat, barley and canola tolerate chloride without difficulty, and for them MOP is simply the cheapest way to correct a potassium deficiency.
Pasture and hay
Hay removes an enormous amount of potassium — far more than grazing, because the whole plant leaves the paddock. Cut paddocks run down fast and need replacement potassium in a form that is affordable at the tonnages involved.
Sugarcane, rice, coconut and oil palm
Heavy potassium feeders that tolerate chloride, and in the case of coconut and oil palm actually benefit from it.
As the potassium base of a blend
MOP is the usual potassium component in broadacre NPK blends. Tell us the analysis your soil test calls for and we will blend to it.
The One Question That Decides MOP or SOP
Ask what the chloride will do to your crop.
Most field crops are indifferent to it. A specific group is not: potatoes, tobacco, grapes, citrus, berries, avocados and many vegetables lose quality and yield when chloride goes on, and for those crops the right product is potassium sulphate (SOP), even though it costs more per unit of potassium.
The second consideration is salt. Chloride adds to the salt load, so on saline soils or with salty irrigation water, MOP makes an existing problem worse.
| MOP 0-0-60 | SOP 0-0-50 | |
|---|---|---|
| Potash | 60% K2O | 50% K2O |
| Also supplies | Chloride | Sulphur |
| Cost per unit of K | Lower | Higher |
| Use on | Cereals, pasture, sugarcane, rice, oil palm | Potatoes, grapes, citrus, berries, tobacco, most vegetables |
Send us the soil test and the crop and we will tell you which one the numbers call for.
MOP 0-0-60 — Common Questions
Is muriate of potash the same as potassium chloride?
Yes. Muriate of potash, MOP, potassium chloride and KCl all mean the same product. “Muriate” is an old name for chloride.
How much potassium is in a tonne?
600 kg of potash as K2O, which is about 500 kg of elemental potassium. At 100 kg per hectare you are applying 60 kg of K2O per hectare.
Which crops should not get MOP?
Chloride-sensitive crops: potatoes, tobacco, grapes, citrus, berries, avocados and many vegetables. Use SOP on those instead.
Can MOP be used in fertigation?
Soluble grades exist for that purpose; standard granular grades are not intended for drip systems. Tell us the system it is going through and we will confirm the grade.
Does MOP acidify soil?
Very little. Its effect on soil pH is small compared with ammonium-based nitrogen fertilisers such as ammonium sulphate.
Packing and Quantities
MOP 0-0-60 is supplied in bulk, in 1,000 kg and 500 kg bulka bags, and in 50 kg and 25 kg bags. Minimum order is 10–25 MT, depending on the product and the destination. Packing formats, 20ft container loading figures, and bagging and marking are set out in full on our Delivery & Freight page.
Handling and Storage

A Certificate of Analysis for your delivered batch and the Safety Data Sheet are both available on request. Where a Certificate of Analysis is issued for a batch, that certificate governs.
Muriate of Potash MOP 0-0-60 Data Sheet
A Certificate of Analysis for your delivered batch and the Safety Data Sheet are both available on request. The analysis in the data sheet is the nominal specification; where a Certificate of Analysis is issued for a batch, that certificate governs.
